Two sides, but only one verdict. Welcome to a case for debating podcast. Hello, listeners, and welcome back to a case for debating podcast. As you might have guessed by the intro and the show art this week, we have a fun Halloween special bonus episode for you guys today. Joining me today is Henry, our producer and third-time guest on the podcast. Are you excited to be behind the microphone today, Henry, and recording our fun Halloween episode? Yes, I am so excited, and this will be really fun and Halloween-y. We have some fun things planned for you guys today. Since this is a bonus, that means this will be dropping on Saturday, and we are actually recording on Halloween, so a little last minute, but that will mean your main episode that you're excited for will still drop normally on Tuesday, but you will get a fun little bonus to listen to on Halloween. So, to start our episode, what is your favorite part about Halloween? My favorite part about Halloween is probably making the costumes. So this year for Halloween, I am a TI-108 calendar. And what I did is I created a design and glued it onto a foam core bulboard and then added buttons, so then the buttons on the calculator actually click. It was very fun to click it. Everybody wanted to click them. And in previous years, I've usually done lots of costumes of this type. The year before this, I had like a scrolling thing with various Halloween AI prompts. And my mom helped me make a box to enclose myself inside of, and it looks like the Macintosh. The year before that I was an iPhone. it's really the same format as this. I just got a design and then spray glued it onto a piece of cardboard, and I really enjoy being these types of costumes. So as I said before, Henry is very creative and likes to make really fun costumes. I am less creative and I usually buy my costume, unfortunately, but Henry's costumes are very cool. So I think my favorite part about Halloween is my whole neighborhood, it's kind of the only time that we get together and we all see each other. And I do have a lot of kids in my neighborhood, but we don't really hang out with each other much because we all have a lot going on. So it's really fun on Halloween for me that I get to see all my neighbors, and for Halloween this year, I am going to be a light up stick figure person with like glowy all over me, and we're gonna add more lights to it, which will be pretty fun. So we have a real treat coming up in the main episode. So, Henry, would you like to send anything more about Halloween before we get into the bonus episode? Well, actually, I live in a neighborhood with lots of kids. I just don't hang out with them that much. They have a lot going on, and also I live on the main street. A bunch of my friends last year lived together in a quarter second. They had Halloween parties. They still invite me to them, but they are really fun. So without further ado, let's get into the bonus. So it's Halloween night. Me and Henry thought it would be fun if we were to do a Halloween tier list. So we have classic candies like Skittles and Kit Kat and a bunch of other candies in between. In total, I think we have around 15 candies. We've put together a little tier list here, and afterwards you will be able to get a link in our show notes, or you can just go to canva.link slash candy list to view this whole tier list after we are done with it. So the way this is gonna work is we have these candies out. So we're gonna try to make this interesting and we're gonna go from top to bottom and we're gonna kinda talk about what we like and don't like about the candies, and then we will decide. Okay, I say we should start off with Skittles. I personally like Skittles. I wouldn't call it my favorite candy, but what do you think, Henry? I like Skittles, but they're not my favorite. Should we settle with a B tier? I'd say a B tier or an A tier. Maybe I would say probably A tier. What do you think about that? That's probably a good choice. Okay. So a another one that is pretty controversial. We have Tootsie Pops. Do you like Tootsie Pops, Henry? Have you ever had a Tootsie Pop? I've had Tootsie Pops, but they're not really my favorite. Should we put them probably a B or a C tier? So if we're kind of relating them to Tootsie Rolls, I'd say Tootsie Pops are better than Tootsie Rolls. So I'd probably say like a C tier, to be honest, maybe an a D tier. Okay. Next we have Snickers. This is an old-time favorite, perhaps, and maybe like probably what I think of when I think of H Halloween candy. What do you think of this person? So I do think that when I think of Halloween candy, Snickers definitely does come to mind. I don't know. I haven't had many Snickers. I usually go towards Twix or something like that. Like that's my more preferred chocolate candy, but I don't really have something against Snickers, so I would put it at probably like an A tier. Yeah, I think I agree with that. It's probably one of my favorites. Yeah, you know what I do really like about Snickers though? If you get the little small ones and you get enough of them, I've had many Halloweens where I've been able to make the word Snickers with all of the letters. Okay, so that'll go at A tier. The next candy we're gonna go with Jolly Ranchers. So Jolly Ranchers were really big, I'd say one maybe two years ago. I think they're pretty good, but sometimes they make you throw up, and I think my favorite flavor is green apple, but I'd put them at like a solid B tier or maybe a C tier. I personally don't really like Gioli ranchers. out of all the flavors, my personal favorite is probably green apple or watermelon. But I feel like they're not as good as Halloween candy though. Like they're more one of those candies that you would see a knot during this part. Yeah, I'd agree with that. They don't really feel like a Halloween candy. So I think it deserves probably a C tier. Okay, yeah, I'd agree with that. Okay. Next up is a big controversy candy corn. So I think candy corn is kind of disgusting. It's a pretty generic candy, so it sometimes comes in a bag. It doesn't taste amazing, and if you eat too much, you start throwing up weird colors. So I would honestly put candy corn at an E or an F tier. I think the taste of candy corn is good if you just have a few. But I do definitely agree with that if you eat too much, it kind of makes you want to throw up. So let's put it at good, well, a bad E tier. Okay, where would you like to go next, Henry? Let's do Twix next. Okay, so personally, Twix is one of my favorite Halloween candies. And I really like when people give out a lot of it and I can start to collect it. I know a lot of people don't like Twix, but Twix is probably one of my favorite Halloween candies. I think I do agree with that. Twix is probably like my second or third favorite Halloween candy. I think it does deserve an S tier. Okay. Our first S tier is Twix. Okay, and it'll let you decide which one we go next. Next, let's do kit caps. So I personally don't like kit caps. They just don't seem nice to other candies much, but I do I like the Japanese flavors of katakats, they have like a trillion different flavors, and I do think that those flavors are really good. I I don't like the original flavor, but I like the different flavors. What do you think about this, Bryson? Yeah, I'd agree with that. I don't really love Kit Kats. I'd much rather a a Snickers, a Skittles, or a Twix or something like that. I would actually probably prefer like a Tootsie Pop or a Jolly Rancher over the Kit Kat, especially if it's just the original flavor. So I'd put it at a B tier. I think personally for me it's a C tier, but I know that a lot of people like them, so let's put it at a B tier. I actually think it should go at a C tier. Well, okay. So do you want to pick the next candy? I am going to go Swedish fish. So I think I used to like Swedish fish as a kid, but as I get older, it feels more and more like I'm just eating disgusting gummies chemically flavored with weird food dye stuff. So I don't really love Swedish fish anymore. And honestly, I don't think it should even rank above candy corn. Yeah, I personally used to like it too, but once you eat a lot of them, it just feels like you're eating too many like of the same generic candies. So I think it probably deserves to eat tier. Pat, would you like to pick the next candy? Okay. Next, let's do Smardies. So I personally feel like Smardies are pretty good candy, but like I said, of the Jelly Adventures, I just feel like they don't belong as a Halloween candy. They're the kind of candies that you'd expect, like in a teacher prize bin or something. Yeah, I like Smarties too. They feel more like an Easter kind of thing to me, or like a teacher prize bin, like you were saying before. I'd probably put it at like a B or a C tier, maybe.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
BrycenI think they do taste good, so I'll put it at a good B tier. Okay. I think we should go with nerds' gummy clusters next. So I think I don't know for certain, but I believe that the gummy clusters might be fairly recent. Because like three to five years ago, I just remember like the nerds that were in the little box that you just had to dump out, which was really annoying. So I think the nerds, the gummy clusters are better, but again, what we said with like the Jolly Managers and the Smarties, they don't feel to me as like a Halloween candy, but they're still good, so I'd probably put them at an A or a B tier. What do you think? I think that the Nerd Scummy Clusters do actually taste really good. The nerds were definitely like annoying when you had to like pour them out of a box when they were little to pellets, but actually, nerd scummy clusters have been climbing the ranks recently, so should we give it a A tier or a B tier? Honestly, I'd probably say an A tier. They are climbing up, and I know a lot of people have started to like them, and I have met a few people who think it who it's it their favorite Halloween candy. Okay, what candy would you like to go with next? Next, let's do Milky Ways. So, personally, these are probably one of my favorite candies because they're like Twix for me, but better. But what do you think about them, Bryson? So I've had Milky Way only a couple of times. I like Twix a bit better because it doesn't have as much of the gooey chocolate, but I don't have anything against Milky Ways, and I know they're very popular, so I'd say S tier or A tier. Hmm. I think they should be S tier. Okay, do you want to pick next? Yes, so I'm going to go with Twizzlers. So I don't really know many other flavors of Twizzlers. I know that they're just strawberry. Personally, I think Twizzlers are okay. I know a lot of people really like Twizzlers, but for me, they kind of just taste like gummies that they've just decided to put in like a rope form. And I'd definitely rather eat some of the other candies that I that we have on this list rather than Twizzlers. I personally don't I think they're f okay, but I don't think that that they're very good, and they just like like the Swedish first, they do kind of like taste artificial. So I think it probably deserves a D tier. Okay, I think that sounds good too. where would you like to go next? We have nine candies remaining. Hershey's. I have mixed feelings on this. I th I think it's good as it's in the chocolate category, but it doesn't really feel like a Halloween candy at all. It feels like more like something you'd pull out when you're when you're roasting marshmallows and making s'moors. Yeah, I feel like Hershey's is much better on s'mores or something like that, because when you're just eating it by itself, it definitely feels like it's missing like the wafer and the caramel and other things that are on the Snickers, Twix, and Milky Ways and things like that. So if at if we're ranking Halloween candy, I would probably put Hershey's next to Twizzlers or Kit Katz. Mm-hmm. Yeah, I think it deserves a D tier, probably. Okay. I'm gonna go next with one I haven't really eaten much, but I know a lot of people like, and that is the crunch bar. So I haven't really eaten the crunch bar. I've probably had like a bit of it. I think it's decent, but I definitely think if we're going to rate it well, I'd put it at probably like a B tier. And I do think it is comparable with something probably like a Snickers or maybe a Kit Kat. So I've personally never had a crunch bar. I do know that they are that they're rice and chocolate, which even sounds good to me, so I do think that they deserve a B tier next to Smurdy's. Okay. What candy should we look at next? Let's do gummy bears next. So I personally I actually really like haribo. I remember always getting them for Halloween. And I think they're really good gummy bears, but they don't feel much like Halloween Kenny. I'm kind of 50-50, so should we give it a B? What do you think about those? So I have nothing against gummy bears, but I also think they're really common and kind of like boring. So if we're both 50-50, maybe the C tier to balance things out. And actually for Halloween tonight, I am on a quest to find the best gummy. So I'm gonna get gummies from every house, and then I'm gonna taste one gummy out of every bag, and then I will report back next week what my favorite gummy was. So stay tuned for that. But I think these deserve a C or a B tier because we're both 50-50. Okay, I think C tier is for for her bo. Okay, what do you want to pick next? Okay, I'm gonna go with Starburst next. So, Starburst for me, I do kind of like the taste of them, but I used to like them more, but as I get older, they aren't really worth it because they taste so artificial, and then they always get stuck in your teeth, and then you're stuck like prying stuff out of your teeth for the next hour and getting annoyed. So I would probably rate this low unless you really like Starburst. And Starburst used to be one of my favorite Halloween candies, but I think it's consistently dropping in my personal tier list year after year. I think I agree with you that I used to like Starburst. I don't like them as much now and they get stuck in your teeth. So I wouldn't rank them an F tier, but let's just maybe like do them an E tier. Okay, that's where we're putting all the really artificial tasting candies today. So which one would you like to do next? Next, let's do a one that a lot of people like Reese's peanut butter cups. So I personally don't like these really that much. I just prefer more of the other candies, honestly, for Halloween. I know that a lot of people like them, though. They also just don't feel like a Halloween candy to me, so maybe they deserve a D tier, in my opinion. What do you think, Drysen? So I know my mom really likes Weese. I personally don't like peanut butter at all. And they've tried to make more flavors and I've tried them, but I don't like Reese's at all. And since this is our personal tier list, I would actually put this at an E tier probably rather than a D tier. I guess probably fair. Next I'm gonna go with Butterfingers. So I've only had a butterfinger maybe once, and I'm pretty sure I really did not like it. And they really don't feel like a popular they don't feel like a good candy to me, and honestly, not really like a Halloween candy. And if I'm trying to name candies, I would probably forget altogether about Butterfingers. So for me, this would probably be our first F tier. Yeah, I definitely don't like these as much as some of the other candies. I've only had it like once in a like a that much. But yeah, I do think it deserves an F tier. I know a lot of people like that, but again, this is our personal tier list. Okay, what candy would you like to go to next? Next, I will choose milk chocolate MMs. I know that a lot of people like these, and I personally feel mixed on them. I feel like the colors are kind of artificial and still not my favorite. I think in my personal opinion, they deserve like a B or C tier. But what do you think, Bryson? I think I don't really like MMs, and I probably would give them a higher tier, but I feel that they are very overrated for what you actually get, which kind of lowers it on the list for me. So I'd probably go with a D tier, like you said. Because what MMs really just taste like to me is it is just chocolate covered in sugar and artificial flavors and colors. So I do think it deserves a D tier. What do you want to pick next? Okay, so continuing down the MM path, I'm going to pick peanut MMs, and for me, peanut MMs seem like the MM company was just trying too hard, and I feel like they made something like marginal, just awful. Because as I said before, I don't like peanut butter. And peanut MMs, they're weird for me, and I don't like them at all. So I would be fine with putting them in an F tier or maybe an E tier. What do you think, Henry? I really feel like peanut MMs, I don't taste the chocolate as much. It just feels like this time they just wrapped peanuts in a candy coating. So I do think it deserves an F tier. Next, on our last item on our list, warheads. So these candies, actually not many people know about. I had never heard about them until few days ago at a school trunk or treat. But what do you think about them, Henry? They're probably really bad for you, so like you should only probably have them like once or twice a year. But I personally l really like really sour things. And I think that warheads are good. Like I remember going to the arcade for birthday parties, and they had like just like tons of warheads and they bought all of them and they're so sour, I love them. But I feel like they're kind of forgettable until you get reminded of them. So I think they're okay. They do get you do get hit with an extreme sour blast, but after the flavor really comes out, like the apple or the watermelon or whatever flavor you're doing, and the sourness I don't love, but I'd say it's an overall pretty decent candy, and it probably would put it at something like an A tier, but as you were saying, I don't really associate it with Halloween, and it's really easy to get forgotten about unless you happen to see it again somewhere else. Okay, so I do think it deserves a B tier. Also, I want to make one change to our list. I think that nerd's gummy cluster should be an S because it's like Sunny combined gummies and nerds, two completely different types of candies, and people also like really, really like them. They're one of the most popular candies. I'd agree with that too. I would probably move Starburst up to D tier.
unknownOkay.
